Because he made a commitment to destroying the ring of power and to all the Members of the Fellowship of the Ring.
He knew he could lose a lot, even his life. He fought bravely along his companions, who he drew more close to
everyday. I really admire Legolas not only for his good looks but for his courage, his loyalty, his kindness,
his talent with the bow and arrow (no one in Middle-Earth can shoot it like he can) and there's
probably a billion other things too, including his caring for his friends..especially Aragorn and Gimli in TTT. He has such a heart! He deserves our respect, he helped save
Middle-Earth and saved the lives of many! Long live Legolas! I'll love you forever and ever :) I think a lot of the young ladies who adore Legolas for his looks should wake up and realize what an amazing Elf he really is and that there's more to him than his looks. He's a Warrior, a Prince of Mirkwood!

Words cannot explain the adoration I have for this hobbit, but here we go anyway. ;) I love how he puts his friends first. He always wants to make sure they
are okay and safe and stuff like that. He's courageous and brave. He never gave up, like in The Two Towers film when Treebeard said they weren't going to
fight, Merry wasn't going to let them get away with that - he knew that their friends needed help, and he wasn't going to let them die at the hands of Saruman's armies. The fact that he doesn't give up ties in with the concept that he can make it through anything. He's also incredibly loyal. He pledged his allegiances to
the Fellowship and King Théoden, and he never strayed from them. I mean, even when the King told him not to, he still went along to Pelennor, which
shows just how loyal he is. He risked his life for his friends, Middle-earth,
and his freedom - and that's why I love him so much.

He went through a lot to be king. I'd say I really admire his loyalty and bravery especially when he was with the Fellowship. One of my fav. parts in the movie of TTT was the scene when he and Legolas were starting to argue in Helm's Deep and when he says 'Then I shall die as one of them!' All I have to say about that is whoa. He never even gave up on finding Merry and Pippin, he'd keep going till the end if need be! What I find most wonderful is the story of him and Arwen. After waiting for years. finally he gets to marry the one he's waited for too. Ah, devotion! ^_^ Love ya!

Why is this Character your Hero?:
Éowyn is the perfect role model for all young women. Shes not only
beautiful, but strong. She is willing to give her life in battle to protect
those that she loves. Which proves that she has an extensive amount of
courage and bravery. She took my breath away in The Return of the King by
slaughtering the Witch-King, which she would not have been able to do, had
she not been a woman. When asked by Lord Aragorn what she fears, it isn't
death or pain, like most humans, but a cage, to be stuck behind bars, not
able to, nor even desiring, to help those in need. Tolkien captures all the
wonderful qualities in a woman within this one character, I will always
admire her.

She´s not only beautiful but also a caring and loving person. She might not be as strong and willing to fight as Éowyn. Arwen is a lady, in the true meaning of the word. She has a inner strenght and does not need to show it with a sword. No offence against Éowyn, I really liked her. ^_^
Although Arwen has lived for so long she´s still full of love and compassion for every living beeing. She would give everything for the person she loves. And what greater gift could she make then give up her immortality for the man she loves?
One of my favorite parts was when she told Aragorn "It is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart."

Everything Aragorn did in the battle to destroy the ring. I love how brave he is and that he is so loyal to his friends and destroying the ring. He is the heir of Isildur and heir of the throne of Gondor. Just like Aurora my favorite part is when in TTT he says "Then I shall die as one of them!" But I also love the part where Arwen tells him "It is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart." in FOTR. He does not give up on anyone and in the end he gets to marry his true love, someone who he has wanted for so many years, Arwen. I think Aragorn is amazing and I wish I could be like him. :)

Words can't begin to describe what this character means to me. The sacrifice he made and the burden he took on himself, it overwhelms me. He's loyal and so brave, he goes out with the simple intention of saving his beloved home from danger, and then saves all of Middle-Earth. He is the most important character to me. The suffering he went through and continued to suffer even after it was destroyed, it breaks my heart, he's such a sorrowful character. Not only is he cute as all get out, he's just such an amazing awesome character. And, like, Sam, I'm pained at how little appreciation he got in the Shire when he returned, because he accomplished most out of the four hobbits. Frodo will always be my favourite, and Elijah portrayed him so beautifully I was speechless.

Why is this Character your Hero?:
They don't appear in the movie at all except for a one second clip in the Council of Elrond. Some know one of them as Figwit, I have right to believe that he is one of the twins with his brother right beside him. Anyways, Elladan and Elrohir are great fighters and were taught by one of the best Elven fighters, Glorfindel. They are noble and risked their lives to find their mother and when they saw what Orcs had done to her, they swore their lives to avenge her having to go across the sea. The twins also brought Rangers to meet with Aragorn at the Paths of the Dead and brought banners and sails for ships to sail down the river. They were great Elven-lords and helped in the succes of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. They taught a young Aragorn some of the things he knew and were just all around great guys. They totally are my favorite characters and probably always will be.

He is truly special because he helps the fellowship so much with his awesome archery skills and becomes great friends with all of them, especially Gimli. Legolas is truly a hero :)

Because he can keep his self-control under incredible emotional assault. Because he understands that being a real man does not equal being a macho bonehead, and that the truly strong can afford to be gentle. Because he can spare a second in the midst of questioning Frodo to notice the beauty of the elven leaf-brooch. Because he's amazingly intelligent, brave, competent, and compassionate. I thought he was also very cool when he showed up, like Robin Hood, with his men in green. He's the most intellectual character in the story except maybe for the wizards; he's impressively sharp-minded, observant, and knowledgeable. His refusal of the Ring is both inspiring and poignant, as his first thought afterward is compassion for Boromir, who could not pass the test. In ROTK, it made my heart ache to see him struggling with his terrible family situation. I admired his integrity, his humility, and the way he never gave in to bitterness. If he weren't already my hero by then, his
courtship of Eowyn would have washed away any doubts. The mixture of respect and ardor is irresistible. Plus he gets some wonderful lines: "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." He manages to be completely noble and yet thoroughly real.

I thought Haldir (and i'm sure a whole lot of others did too) was very funny the moment he appeared on screen in the FOTR with that little jibe at Gimli - "The dwarf breathes so loud we could have shot him in the dark." I loved him even more in the extended version of FOTR especially when he led the fellowship to Calas Galathon. But the moment he appeared in TTT leading the Lothlorien elves into Helm's Deep came as a very pleasant surprise, although i would very much have prefered it if he hadn't have been so cruelly killed :( but it was his heroism @ Helm's Deep that completely bowled me over (and nearly made me cry too!). His speech to Theoden said it all really: "...An alliance once existed between Elves and Men. Long ago we fought and died, together. We come to honour that alligence." I rest my case......................

Merry is simply an amazing character. He always seems to keep his head up in a situation. Throughout the duration of the books, Merry feels as though he is not worthy and is battling to find his courage. After King Theoden tells Merry that he would basically be no help in battle, Merry still finds a way to get there and fights courageously. At the beginning, Merry is a hobbit almost afraid of fighting at all, and at the end, he's a hero!

Can I have two? I'm saying Aragorn becuse he is totally the perfect hero. He is brave, looks after Frodo, then tries so hard to save Merry and Pippin from the Uruk-Hai. Sorry, but I have two heroes. Sam because of his loyalty and his caring gentle way with everybody. Everytime Sam appears in the book or in the movie, we can only wish that life could bring us a friend like him. And Aragorn is so noble, brave and loyal. Eomer is MY hero because he has the courage to remain loyal to a King who scorns him. And later assumes the role of King when Rohan needs a leader, even though he was not raised to bear the crown. Eomer protects so many. His uncle, his sister, his country, and ultimately all of Middle Earth. A man who does not hide from responsibility, but rises to the occaision when needed, is ALWAYS a hero.

Although all of the nine walkers - and certain others - are heroes in their wonderfully diverse ways, Boromir is my hero because he, above all else, captures the essence of what it is to be human and fallible. His heart is in the right place, with his people in Gondor, but his love and concern for them blinds him to the danger of the ring and ultimately leads to his downfall. I find him to be a very complex character, torn between protecting his people and protecting Frodo, and his struggle to resist the temptation of using the ring - which he mistakenly believes will save Gondor and Middle Earth - is not difficult to comprehend or sympathise with. He may have failed the fellowship but his motives were essentially noble, though misguided. I think that it was his downfall and sacrifice which motivated the rest of the fellowship (that is, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli) to stay true - his death reminded them, at a critical time, of the value of life.

He's simply incredible. Not only is he intelligent, brave, wise, and a good person, he is also sensitive and incredibly strong. He's had to live with tons of emotional pain and live in his brother's shadow, but he takes it and grows from it which would drive a normal person mad. What's also awesome is he can resist the temptation of the ring, or at least is wise enough not to take it. A feat nearly impossible to humans. He always has the good of his country at heart, even when trying to take the ring from Frodo. He's the kind of guy men would follow anywhere (got that from the book...it's a true fact, not an opinion!) He fights until the death for something he truly believes in. Also, although he may have acted a tad *beep* at the Council, keep in mind that he was the youngest invited member and was kinda in the dark as to the ring's full power. And how would you feel if someone told you that you really wern't the heir to the kingdom of Gondor? He has a very dynamic personality (unlike Legolas, who has no visable personality). Boromir is the epitomy of strength, determination, and pride. He traveled hundreds of miles to Rivendell just to follow a dream. He is an amazing character and the fact that Sean Bean is really hot doesn't hurt either ^^

Very simply because despite the fact that his father denied him a relationship and he was always in his brother's shadow, he fought for Gondor without expectations. Even though he knew that had he taken the ring from Frodo he could have won over his father's affection his immediate disreguard (in the book, at least) for it is inspiring. His actions are evidently produced through intense thought and observations, his character was filled with complexities in the book but yet there was one thing we knew about Faramir and it was that he was a genuinely good person who performed the demands of his fathers with dignity. He symbolizes the true definition of a hero for me, especially when he fights out-numbered for his father with the knowledge that it would most likely result in his death.

Although he was omitted from the movies, the literary Glorfindel is my hero. I choose to believe that Glorfindel of Gondolin and Glorfindel of Imladris are one in the same and to me his whole existence has been one of selfless heroism protecting all that he holds dear. Would that many today know the ideals of honor and self sacrifice.

How could he not be? He is one of the most dependable, reliable, heart-wrenching, beautiful characters I've ever read, and Sean Astin's portrayal was spot-on brilliance. I've always loved Sam and his unfailing devotion to his master and friend, Frodo. I can't imagine loving another character from a book as much as I loved Samwise. He will always be my favorite gardener.

It was so hard for me to choose between Frodo and Pippin...but for some reason watching ROTK made me have crazy respect for him. He saves Gandalf and Faramir. This little guy has a strong will and throughout all 3 movies he grows up and becomes a great person. I can't leave out when he sang for Denethor. My heart just melted:-\ lol

The reason Legolas is my hero is: Legolas is cheerful and is really the one that encouraged the fellowship when it was going through some rough spots. He is also loyal and would never think of breaking his word or not giving somthing his all. He has hundreds of good charactor qualities, but what I REALLY like him for is that he's just sooooo cool!!!-with a bow 'n the arrowws and his glares and all that good stuff. So go you! You ROCK!!!!!

Glorfindel has been my hero ever since I first read the books, and I believe that Glorfindel of Gondolin and Glorfindel Of Rivendell are one and the same. He is corageous, loyal, and died defending his people. He played a large part in the quest of the ring, because without him, Frodo never would have made it to Rivendell alive. Glorfindel's the greatest!

Samwise Gamgee is my hero because he's so loyal and brave. He's loyal because he never breaks his promise and he is at Frodo's side throughout the whole journey. He's also brave because he always jumps in when Frodo is too weak or in grave danger. Sam also keeps on encouraging Frodo to get up and never give up. That's why Sam is my Hero out of the Fellowship.

He is my hero because he stayed with Frodo through thick and thin. He might not have wanted to go to Mordor, but because of his intense loyalty, he went anyway. He almost got killed more than once, and he was left behind by Frodo, but he made true to his promise, and didn't ever leave Frodo. If everyone could be more like Sam, and stay true to our word, this world would be better. There wouldn't be so many lies, and treachery and cruelty might be abholished. That is why Sam is my hero.
