Movie reviews - The Village

Overall Rating: 10 out of 10
I LOVED this film so much! As you can see, I gave it a 10 out of 10.
It was nothing like I expected it to be, and I hardly knew anything about it, which was quite nice, me being the spoiler-freak I am :P Everything was extremely surprising. The trailers made it seem like something it wasn't, so what I was expecting was some thriller movie or something. Yes, the movie had it's moments, I actually jumped from my seat a couple of times, lol. That was rad. It was suspenseful though, and really interesting, it definitely made you think. The twists were just...WOW! I'm not even going to discuss those, no way. Everything about this film was very creative, I was surprised many times. It's very original. This may be shocking, but this movie is actually a love story. Yep yep.
The acting was positively brilliant! All the cast members get major props from me. I was impressed with Adrien Brody..I don't really like him at all, nor did I believe he could create such a character as Noah, so that was really cool. Joaquin Phoenix (Lucious) also did a wonderful job, as did Bryce Dallas Howard (Ivy)..and I guess this was her first movie, as some have told me. Geeze, she did a great job, although on certain scenes I couldn't tell she was supposed to be blind. Joaquin's character (Lucious) was so mysterious and interesting. He had this rare sweetness to his face, lol. Yes I know, I'm too much. It's just crazy to compare his character from this one to his role in Gladiator.
The love story between Lucious & Ivy was very different, but sweet. The first time they kissed was dumb though because the camera panned to the side when they were kissing, so you practically missed it. I was like "Hey..hey..go back!" Ha ha ha. But oh man, that scene on the porch with them was just...I don't even know the word. Perfect. The couple of times he took her hand, I melted *sighs* There was just something about them.
You know, I didn't like the ending too much at all. I think it should've gone further than that. Oh well, I guess I'll have to use my imagination..or, even better, they can make a book! The movie will leave you thinking about many things though, so maybe a book can answer more questions, or confirm theories.
Just in case you're wondering, no, this is not a chick flick, yes it's a love story, but there's other stuff involved and it doesn't take away from what's going on. Everyone go see this film! I know I wasn't very descriptive with everything, and I know I didn't talk about too much of anything really, but I don't think anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet should know that much, it would totally ruin it.
I also have to say that I own the soundtrack to this movie and it's amazing. It's so good I've listened to it all the way through without skipping one track countless times. If you don't own the soundtrack, pay close attention to the music in the film, it's beautiful.
